Catholic Christian Counseling

BECAUSE FAITH MATTERS

Secular Counseling: Opposition to Catholicism.

The goal of secular counseling is self-actualization without God.

Techniques based on non-Christian philosophies may be used in session.

Heretical theories of counseling and psychology may be applied.

Moral relativism, secular values, dualism, behaviorism, and other beliefs may creep into session.

You deserve a counselor who ascribes to your worldview.

Seeking Someone You Can Trust.

You are seeking a counselor who is familiar with Catholicism.

Who can assist you with mental and emotional wellness.

You are seeking a Catholic Mental Health Counselor.

With your Catholic counselor, you will have an opportunity to utilize your faith more fully in the healing process:

  • Welcome the Holy Spirit into your session
  • Utilize the Catholic interpretation of scripture

Issues from a Catholic Perspective

The world’s values are not your values.

Scrupulosity

You cannot shake the feeling that you have done something horribly wrong. You obsessively think about sin. Anxiety and guilt are inescapable. Frequent prayer and confession have not calmed your conscience. We may be able to help! What you are experiencing may be a form of OCD known as “scrupulosity.” Our knowledgeable and compassionate counselors are here for you.

Dating, Marriage, & Divorce

You are struggling to find, grow, or maintain a romantic relationship. You believe that marriage is a sacrament, a life-long commitment. You need a counselor who can help you find a way forward – to heal wounds, increase emotional connection, and journey towards heaven together.

Sex & Sexuality

Catholic sexual ethics are clear but challenging. Co-habitation, same-sex attraction, self-pleasing, contraception, infertility, marital relations – these are difficult subjects. You may not completely understand or agree with the teachings of the Church. All you know is that you are struggling, which is a sensitive topic. You need a counselor who understands the Catholic ideal and who will not judge you for falling short. We can help.

Spiritual Warfare

You believe in God. You also believe in the devil. You believe there is a spiritual battle that you cannot see. Perhaps you’ve had an unusual experience that you question. Was it your imagination, something spiritual, or a mental health symptom? You need to talk to someone knowledgeable who will listen with an open mind.

Suffering, Chronic Pain, & Death

There is a balance between healing and acceptance. You believe that, when healing is not possible, life continues to have value. Redemptive suffering recognizes the value of life in the midst of pain. Our counselors can help with the problem of pain and suffering through a Catholic lens.

Help for Your Teen

Your teenager would like to talk to a counselor. You don’t know whom to trust. You don’t want someone who will lead them astray. Drugs, sex, purpose, salvation, gender, family – your values are not the “norm” today. You need a counselor with a similar worldview.

Counseling that supports you…mind, body & soul.

Catholicism rejects the popular concept that people are “spiritual beings having a human experience”. Rather, Catholicism teaches that you are a body-soul composite. As such, our Catholic counselors take into consideration your biology, psychology, and spirituality, as well as your environment, during treatment. The counseling process may include the following:

  • Completing an Assessment
  • Setting goals
  • Expressing yourself
  • Understanding your thoughts
  • Examining your behaviors
  • Practicing new skills
  • Reviewing your progress

Counseling that operates through a Catholic lens.

Our Catholic counselors are practicing Catholics, and they have additional education in Catholic matters related to counseling. However, they are not experts in Catholicism. Catholic-oriented education may include:

  • Understanding of the Human Person
  • Catholic Sexual Ethics
  • Theology of the Body
  • Catholic Teaching
  • Catholic Understanding of Scripture

As Christians, we often expect a great deal from ourselves. We all fall short, and when we do, we sometimes feel shame or guilt. There is no need. We are fellow sinners; we are not your judge. Call us today at (567) 644-8186,and we can chat about how we can help. We look forward to hearing from you!
